We’ve been teaching our acclaimed Cracking Pitches course to freelance journalists and aspiring writers for the past seven years, and it’s pretty standard for our students to earn back their course fee in commissions before we part company.

During this two-week online course, we’ll teach you everything we’ve learned about pitching over the course of our own established careers as freelance journalists. We’ll talk you through how to keep coming up with commissionable feature ideas, even in a pandemic, and how to turn a good idea into a brilliant pitch that an editor can’t refuse. We’ll also touch on tailoring your pitches to make sure you’re sending the right feature ideas to the right publications, and how to work out who on earth to send your pitch to in the first place. But what really separates our course from all the others is that we specialise in showing you what NOT to do, using real, solid embarrassing examples from our own failures (and, happily, successes). We’ve been told, time and time again, that this ‘do what we say, not what we did’ approach helps freelance writers see the error of their ways and sort out their lacklustre pitching.

We offer personalised feedback on your pitches plus mentoring support during the second week, which is when the magic really happens. Think of it like having a pair of well-connected journo mates on speed dial for a fortnight, breathing over your shoulder when you’re procrastinating, ripping your pitches to shreds (in the nicest possible way), and helping you combat the lack of confidence that often stymies a pitch before it has even had a chance.
